Wild, Hunting and Fishing
Vikbolandet has a rich sample of wildlife including small game, roe deers and elk. The birds are foremost seabirds and there are many geese at the beginning of autumn when you can see thousands in the fields of western Vikbolandet. Vikbolandet is at the moment lacking packs of wild boar, fallow deers and red deers.

Our Wild Animals
Our wild animals consist of everything from hare and fox to roe deers and elk. The hares are foremost field hare, also known as the European brown hare. The numbers of Arctic hare (Swedish hare) have, during the last deacdes, decreased as the bigger field hare has come to dominate. A large amount of hybrid breeds is assumed to exist. The Arctic hare can now be found in the eastern parts of the archipelago and on the islands.
The fox has made a powerful return after the large outbreak of scabies during 1980-90. This has decelerated the otherwise good growth in roe deer stock, when the fox in certain areas may have perhaps halved the newborn fawn of the roe deers during summer and autumn.
The elk, that in the beginning of 1990 could amount to 15-17 elks/1000 hectare in the east, has today been reduced to a more moderate level. Both fatal traffic casualties and damage to pasturage in the wood and farmlands are these days less than before. Every year there are between 180-250 elks shot in Vikbolandet.

Birdlife
Vikbolandet, with its geographically convenient position is rich in bird life foremost coastal species, ducks and geese. Forest birds such as the Black Grouse and Wood Grouse can often be seen here though this can vary from year to year.
The seabird life is rich and out on the islands and skerries their prevelance is greater during autumn and winter when the icy conditions in the Gulf of Bothnia and the Gulf of Finland force the birds futher south. During winter it is not unusual to see thousands of Common Goldeneyes, Tufted Ducks, Merganser of different types together with other speices in just one day.
The field bird has only locally recovered after its descent due to farming from 1960’s. Birds of pray, above all the mighty White-Tailed eagle, can be seen every day over the archipelago and in the east of Vikbolandet and are commonly seen here.

The seabird hunt during winter in our lovely archipelago offers unforgettable experiences in nature and sometimes a first-class bird hunt.
